Long Cane Cemetery in Abbeville, South Carolina

Long Cane Cemetery unveiled its  South Carolina Historical Marker Sunday, the twenty seventh of November at three oclock. This cemetery dates from 1760.  It includes the graves of some of the most prominent families of this area from the Colonial era to the present.  The first marked grave is the field stone of John Lesly, inscribed “A.D.1776.”  The granite entrance pillars and stone wall were built in 1935 as a memorial to veterans of eight wars who are buried here.  The cemetery was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 2010. The  sign is being erected by the Long Cane Cemetery Association.

The Mid-Atlantic Scots4Tots is a 501(c) (3) non-profit charitable organization that focuses on the physical and emotional well being of children and families in the Mid-Atlantic region.
The Scots4Tots organization focuses on supporting the entire family, as everyone shares the emotional stress of an illness. That’s why we are proud to be affiliated with Children’s National Medical Center of Washington D.C. and the Walter Reed Medical Center. By supporting and enriching the lives of the children, the family benefits by receiving a much needed break from the stress and anguish that too often becomes part of caring for a loved one while in a hospital setting.
Whether the child is hospitalized with an illness or the child of a soldier being treated at Walter Reed, the Mid-Atlantic Scots4Tots recognizes the strength of family, and the healing powers of the family-unit.
It is our mission to reach out to these family members.
Often times, during the rush to get to a wounded soldiers bedside, family members forget to pack the day-to-day items needed while living out of their suitcase. We would like to help by providing first care packages that will include items such as toiletries, personal hygiene items and spare clothing to families who’s loved one is being treated at Walter Reed Medical Center.
The Mid-Atlantic Scots4Tots also supports, through our donations, the New Horizons Cultural Arts Program at Children’s National Medical Center. They bring cultural arts and animal visitation to over 10,000 patients annually and offer art, music and dance, allowing the children to let their imaginations roam beyond hospital boundaries during challenging moments in their young lives.
Our group also sponsors arts and crafts shows, demonstrations of Scottish music and dancing, military drills, parades, and other activities designed to promote hope, happiness, and healing among those facing difficult circumstances.
